Smart nets and public awareness to save the seas

Although the European Parliament recently voted to support sustainable fisheries, a worldwide distruction is happening to the seas because of overexploitation by the fishing industry: around 50% of all fish caught is still be thrown back in the sea dead and wasted.
But some good news may be coming from technology: smart nets could possibly filter out fish which would later be discarded and, regarding trawlers, a so called Rollerball net is another promising new arrival: it runs over the seabed on what look like beach-balls instead of dragging heavy gear along the sea bed, destroying much that lies in their path. And last but not least, some changes seem to be happening in the wake of the public awareness.
